Manchester United, the most successful club in the world, is the founding member of the English Premier League. After the major football world cup fever, its magical fever is not yet down.

Fans have been wanting to have digital collectibles of their club members, and Manchester United is now giving them a way to do so.

The club recently announced the Tezos-powered Manchester United Collectibles Collection, which will allow collectors to purchase a digital collectible of their favorite player. This is a major step for Manchester United in the digital collectible market, and the club will be hoping to gain significant traction among football fans.

Fans have already claimed almost 750,000 Manchester United digital collectibles since the game launched just four days ago. The Tezos blockchain has seen six times its usual daily contract interactions due to the huge demand for the collection drop. A free NFT drop of this size is only economically viable due to the cheap cost of minting and transactions on Tezos.

Manchester United has a large fan base in the UK, but its new Web3 community aims to educate, reward, and unite its global fan base through digital and real-world experiences.

The announcement highlights that,

Fans who claim the gifted digital collectible from the Tezos platform will own a coveted piece of United history, joining the Club on its journey into Web3, with future plans for both gifted and purchasable NFTs to be released throughout the season.

Moreover, the club’s official Discord channel will allow fans to navigate the freshly designed web3 space alongside unlocking access to communities on Discord,  submit creative ideas for future NFTs, and share matchdays updates in the new, fan-led, virtual community.
