  • The first phase of the airport’s metaverse experience, BLR Metaport, premiered yesterday.
  • The BLR Metaport offers an immersive, three-dimensional (3D) virtual tour of the recently inaugurated Terminal 2 at BLR Airport.
  • The 3D interface lets travelers check in for flights, make purchases, and navigate terminals.

BLR Metaport, the initial stage of the airport’s metaverse experience, debuted yesterday. Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL) announced in an official statement on December 13 that Terminal 2 (T2) at Kempegowda International Airport has become one of the first airport terminals in the world that can be visually viewed on metaverse.

A shared virtual environment called a metaverse combines virtual reality (VR) with augmented reality (AR) to produce a hyper-realistic, interactive and immersive experience.

An immersive, three-dimensional (3D) virtual experience of the recently opened Terminal 2 at BLR Airport is provided by the BLR Metaport, which was developed in association with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Polygon, according to a statement from BIAL.

The public and interested travelers can use their smart devices to digitally tour and explore the new cutting-edge terminal by visiting the website.

Passengers can use the 3D interface to buy, find their way through terminals, and check into flights. The first section of Terminal 2 will allegedly cost 13,000 crores to build and feature a built-up size of about 2.5 lakh square meters.

The terminal would expand by 4.41 lakh square meters in the second phase. 25 million passengers a year are anticipated to use the new terminal’s initial phase.

At Kempegowda International Airport, the newest terminal 2 was inaugurated on November 11 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On the same day, he also unveiled the Kempegowda statue, also known as the “statue of prosperity.”

The Joint Innovation Centre (JIC), which BIAL, AWS, and Intel announced in April, made the BLR Metaport. The JIC’s main objective is to promote the creation and usage of digital aviation solutions.

It is also optimized for Unreal Engine 5, a real-time 3D production tool for photorealistic visuals and interactive experiences, and fully utilizes the engine’s multiplayer collaboration tools.
