Manchester United has launched Fantasy United, the league’s first Web3-based fantasy football game. The use of Tezos blockchain in this specific undertaking incorporates digital assets with fun gameplay, which enables fans to interact with the sport on yet another level. With the new season of the game around the corner, fans will be able to accumulate virtual best teams by employing newly implemented Player Trading Cards.

The launch includes a collection of Player Trading Cards where every card presents first-team players from Manchester United’s men’s team with the update of new arrivals, Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro.

These cards are available in Classic, Rare, and Ultra-Rare editions, featuring hand-drawn artwork and equipped with real-time stats updates. Fans have the opportunity to form five-man squads and participate in mini-leagues, accumulating points based on the actual game-day performances of their selected players.

This year, Manchester United fans have exclusive early access to these cards, particularly those who already own pieces from the club’s original digital collection known as “The Devils.” This early access began on July 31, marking a special privilege for long-time supporters.

Everyone else is urged to log on and start playing, with the official tournament starting on 16th August 2013, right after Manchester United’s first Premier League match of the season against Fulham.

Manchester United’s digital initiatives, including Fantasy United, have significantly boosted fan interaction, creating a thriving community of nearly 100,000 members on their Discord channel. This platform serves as a hub for fans to engage in discussions, participate in Q&As, and stay updated on new digital drops directly from the club.

The move by the club to adopt blockchain technology is becoming rampant in football. Other clubs have also gone into Web3, for instance, Manchester City has sold Web3 collectibles through Quidd and used Web3 to encourage fans with unique gifts.
