  • Sorare is looking forward to launch an officially-licensed fantasy NBA platform.
  • The NBA game will coincide with NBA Top Shot as well as NBA’s The Association project.
  • In Sorare’s soccer game, new users get a starter pack containing free player cards that can’t be sold since they aren’t on-chain NFTs.

Sorare stepped into baseball through an MLB game. Now it is looking forward to stepping into NBA Top Shot’s turf via the forthcoming launch of an NBA fantasy basketball game.

The platform has been built in collaboration with the NBA and NBPA or the National Basketball Players Association. It will enable users to obtain and use Ethereum NFT cards. Furthermore, users can make a lineup from NFT players they own to move into leagues that offer Ethereum as well as NFT card as rewards to the best performers.

A free-to-play experience will be offered to users who do not buy NFTs.

The NBA game will be launched for the 2022-23 season, scheduled to start on October 18. Though some details have been disclosed, Sorare’s head of business development, Michael Meltzer, shared that certain differences will remain in rarity levels of card and tournament scheduling in accordance with the format and rhythm of the pro hoops league.

Through the NBA platform, Sorare is moving into a different space owing to the presence of NBA Top Shot, which is Dapper Labs’ video-themed NFT collectibles platform on Flow.

NBA Top Shot pulled non-fungible tokens in the mainstream while becoming popular in early 2021. Since then till date, it has made $1 billion in sales.
