Travess Smalley

CRAWL is a series of 512 unique artworks, each generated from a Python-coded system created by Travess Smalley. Each artwork serves as a “level” to be explored, featuring diverse patterns, colors, and textures. At the core of each piece is a map image, but the artwork’s true essence is revealed through Smalley’s custom-built explorer software.

Viewers have two options: they can sit back and watch the software autonomously navigate the artwork, or they can interact directly using a keyboard. As they explore, different colors within the image trigger various events. Each level includes a door icon and other discoverable features, each revealing new ways to explore the artwork.
