The co-founder of Yuga Labs, Greg Solano (Garga), appeared on the last day of Web3 content at the Future of Crypto summit hosted by Benzinga.
In an exclusive interview with Chris Katje, Solano shared details regarding the thought process behind both CryptoPunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club.
Nansen has ranked BAYC as the top NFT project of this year in terms of cultural impression and market capitalization.
Solano shared that they entered non-fungible tokens since they believe digital property rights are important. It is a risky contrast between shortage and ownership though it can be made as broad as possible.
He added:
Owning more can give you more access, but we are not capping the number of people to access the full experience.
Talking about Otherside, the metaverse project, he was clear in terms of the innovation and roots for the metaverse of Yuga that originated from the gaming space. Solano added that they understood non-fungible tokens because they were fascinated with WoW (World of Warcraft) while growing up.
Garga continued that gaming was a crucial aspect of his and Yuga’s other founders’ childhood and early adulthood. The Riverboat Casino Grand Opening on Decentraland depicted how the gaming influence can be enhanced into a connected experience that reminded the early massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) they admired.
UGC and mods are the two best things from gaming’s history. However, certain creators went beyond the game to get value for their work.
Though he was unclear regarding the future of BAYC’s metaverse, he was extremely certain in terms of the focus and tone of the metaverse game.
Garga continued that it’s all about fun since certain people expect the metaverse to be their place for work and some people want to visit the metaverse doctor. Supporting over 10,000 players, Otherside is a multiplayer game besides being a virtual world.
