On July 18, Yuga Labs announced via its Othersidemeta account on X (formerly Twitter) that Project Dragon will be released next week. This game marks Yuga Labs’ latest foray into the NFT gaming sector.
Founded in 2021, Yuga Labs is recognized for its creative approach to digital assets and community-focused projects. The company oversees several popular NFT collections, such as Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC), among others.
Project Dragon is designed as a 3D, action-oriented NFT game featuring large-scale team battles. According to Greg Solano, Yuga Labs’ co-founder, the game will utilize the ‘ODK’ platform, as announced in May 2024, aimed at advancing the creation and monetization of 3D games and social gaming within the crypto ecosystem. This platform will enhance the gaming experience by integrating new functionalities and interactive elements.
The game will only be available on Otherside, Yuga Labs’ metaverse platform. Otherside blends features from MMORPGs and web3 virtual worlds. The platform launched its NFT game “First Trip” in August 2022, attracting 4,500 users to its 3D environment. The next game, “Second Trip,” was released in March 2023 and had over 7,000 users.
Project Dragon is expected to attract a broader audience, including holders of various NFT collections managed by Yuga Labs. Gamers and crypto users with NFTs from collections such as Meebits, Voyagers, Kodas, BAYC, MAYC, BAKC, Grailed, Moonbirds, Kodamara, and HVs will be eligible to join the game. This inclusive approach aims to engage a diverse user base, enhancing the overall gaming experience.
