In a recent city press release, it has been revealed that the City of Miami has plans to release 5,000 Ethereum NFTs later this year. Miami’s Mayor Francis X. Suarez shared plans on Thursday, mentioning the partnership with TIME magazine publisher Time the USA, Salesforce, and Mastercard for the same to happen.

As per the city press release, the NFTs are designed by 56 different Miami artists representing the 56 square mile area of the city. The role of Time USA will be to help define the city’s NFT strategy along with executing the project.

Miami’s partnership with Mastercard will be offering Miami NFT holders premier benefits such as access to special events at restaurants and the city’s private cultural tours. In accordance with the press release shared by the city, Salesforce’s role would be to manage the minting and primary sales process with its new NFT Cloud platform that is yet to be released.

Mayor Suarez of Miami is certainly unfazed by the current market scenario that appears to be a crypto winter. He released a statement addressing the onboarding of new technologies that said:

We will continue to employ these new technologies to support our existing businesses while attracting new ones.

The city’s Ethereum NFTs are planned for a launch in December following Ethereum’s consensus mechanism shift to Proof of Stake. This recent move by Suarez has marked yet another foray into Web3 as he launched MiamiCoin (MIA) in August 2021.

This goes without saying that be it NFTs or altcoins, the City of Miami is not ready to give up on its involvement in crypto.
