  • The collection will feature hundreds of thousands of virtual pairs of Nike’s iconic Air Force 1 sneakers.
  • Priced at $19.82 each, the sneaker boxes can’t be purchased via cryptocurrencies.
  • In the future, the OF1 boxes will unlock extra utilities and perks for holders such as access to unique physical products and experiences.

Nike, the popular sportswear brand, is on its way to launch its first NFT sneaker collection on its .Swoosh platform.

Our Force 1 (OF1), the virtual sneaker, is a play on Nike’s legendary Air Force 1 design. On April 18, the brand will start airdropping “posters” to selected .Swoosh users to allow them early access to the sale scheduled for May 8. The remaining .Swoosh community will be allowed to buy the digital goods on May 10 via its marketplace.

There will be a choice of two digital boxes for users- the “Classic Remix” and the “New Wave” box. Each of the two box types will be corresponding to different designs along with a design co-created in January by four Nike fans. While the former boxes include virtual kicks based on Air Force 1 shoes that were launched between 1982 and 2006, the latter will have pairs designed in 2007 and later.

Classic Remix boxes will have an undisclosed number of rare, customized AF1s with a nostalgic twist. On the other hand, New Wave boxes will have customized expressive AF1s with an even “futuristic twist.”

The price of each box is $19.82, which is a tribute to the year when the Air Force 1 sneaker was launched for the very first time.

OF1 box holders will be allowed to open the boxes later. Each NFT will have a paired 3D file to be used by holders to express themselves in new ways. In the future, Nike is looking forward to adding larger utility which includes unique physical products or experiences.

General manager of Nike Virtual Studios Ron Faris said that they are searching new ways to share stories and establish relationships alongside eliminating hurdles and restrictions of physical products.

.Swoosh platform’s beta version was launched in November 2022 with the announcement that that platform would be utilized as a resource for Web3 education as well as a platform to purchase and trade digital collectibles. Nike even shared that items bought on .Swoosh can be worn in both video games as well other immersive experiences.

.Swoosh members will be enabled to make their personal collections and earn royalties by selling them. The brand organized a contest in January with a  $5,000 prize, challenging .Swoosh community members to create a visual storyboard on Instagram and represent their footwear design ideas.
