  • Chipotle will now accept cryptocurrency through Flexa, a digital payments platform.
  • A number of fast food chains have increasingly been experimenting in NFTs, crypto and blockchain.
  • Chipotle has now become possibly the largest U.S. restaurant chain to accept cryptocurrency.

Mexican fast-food chain Chipotle is all set to accept cryptocurrency payments through digital payments provider Flexa at nearly 3000 Chipotle restaurants in the United States.

On Wednesday, Flexa announced the partnership which will see Chipotle accept all the 98 cryptocurrencies Flexa currently supports including Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH) and seven U.S. dollar-pegged stablecoins like USD Coin (USDC).

Customers need to download Gemini or SPEDN app and use the particular app and tap it in-store to make a payment. In other words, customers with a digital wallet that integrates with Flexa can open the app, select Chipotle and scan a unique barcode to pay for their meal with one of nearly 100 currencies. Payment will be processed by Flexa within a second.

This move has put Chipotle in the league of restaurants accepting cryptocurrency.

In the past, the fast-food giant has briefly experimented with cryptocurrencies. While celebrating National Burrito Day In April 2021, it gave away $100,000 worth of Bitcoin along with free burritos, claiming to be the first U.S. restaurant brand to offer a crypto giveaway.

Bake N More, a Dubai-Based Cafe, Now Accepts Shiba Inu as Payment, Today NFT News reported earlier. This shows how the restaurant and fast-food industries are developing strong interest towards accepting cryptocurrency.

Despite high market turbulence, crypto adoption in the U.S. is growing; thereby, making the merchants expressing a desire to implement payment solutions to capture the growing interest.

Similar to the restaurant industry, lifestyle luxury brands have also enabled customers to pay through crypto. One such example is TAG Heur. For those who aren’t still aware, here’s the scoop- TAG Heuer Welcomes Crypto Payment for Online Orders.
