  • Instagram users can now shop from qualified small businesses directly in chats.
  • Users can ask queries, shop and track their order.
  • Businesses can confirm the purchase, create payment requests as well as accept payment in the same chat thread.

Instagram users can now shop directly through chats or DMs. The announcement was made by the company in a blog. The feature will have support from qualified small businesses.

Upon placing an order through a chat, a user can make the payment, track their order and more from the same thread.

The company, in the blog post, mentioned that about one billion people message a business per week. Their activity includes browsing products, chatting with brands, seeking support and engaging with stories. Instagram wants to let people communicate with businesses and buy their preferred products in an easy and smooth way directly from the chat thread.

As of now, it is not clear as to how many businesses will get to use the feature; however, more businesses will have access as the feature rolls out further. Furthermore, making payments in chat is one feature that will be expanded for more & more users in the coming time.

As stated by Instagram, users will be able to message a business to find out more about the item they like and make further requests, all through the chat.

To complete the purchase, users will have to depend on MetaPay, the company’s own payment solution, which is why the feature might be limited to the US market in the initial days.

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO,  announced the launch of the “payments in chat” feature on Instagram.

Business owners can interact with customers in real-time to answer the concerns & questions as well as confirm the purchase details. It will also allow the business to create a payment request with item description and price, as well as request and collect payment.

Last month, Today NFT News reported that Meta will test NFTs on Instagram stories using Spark AR and allow creators to display their NFTs.
