In a recent announcement, it was revealed that the French police have reportedly utilized research from ZachXBT, a pseudonymous blockchain sleuth, to put charges on five people on the suspicions of a theft of $2.5 million worth of NFTs via phishing scams.

The Agence France Presse, or AFP, recently released a report shared by Barron that revealed that the apparent fraudsters constructed a website that deceived as a service that invigorates the static artwork from people’s BAYC and MAYC NFTs.
This led to an unfortunate incident where the credentials of users were swiped, and their NFTs were stolen through the phishing website instead.
The Deputy Chief of the national cyber unit of France, Christophe Durand, told the AFP that it got clued into the incident after scrutinizing an investigation from the self-proclaimed “on-chain sleuth” ZachXBT on Twitter.
In an explanation to it, Durand said that ZachXBT launched an investigation as a result of requests from the community of owners of the BAYC series. ZachXBT acknowledged the fact that the French authorities did take action against the alleged scammers.
What’s more, to be noted, is that a significant segment of the research circled around the use of Tornado Cash by the alleged scammers to mix and withdraw the funds.
In addition to this, it should be noted that ZachXBT did post a series of on-chain investigations that were centered on scams, pump and dumps, hacks, and rug pulls.
