  • The partnership will allow the company to do content-related sports in real-time using the technology of Hawk-eye innovations.
  • Pulselive, one of the other acquisitions of Sony, will help them to fill the distribution gap and provide a metaverse experience to audiences.

Electronic and entertainment giant Sony is all set to strike the world of the sports metaverse. As per the news gathered. Sony has recently completed the acquisition of a 3D imagining and animation company, Beyond Sports.

The company specializes in tech and has the capability to convert real information from a sports match into a metaverse representation. At what price the acquisition was made was not revealed, but as per the media sources, the estimates are around $70 million dollars.

This acquisition by Sony, along with the technology of Hawk-eye Innovations, is also one of the companies owned by Sony. This combination will allow the business to make content related to basketball, baseball, tennis, and football matches in real-time using technology.

Back in 2011, Hawk-eye Innovations was bought by the conglomerate. Companies like National Football League(NFL) and National Hockey League(NHL) have been using the technology from Hawk-eye Innovations as it allows pinpointing the position of the ball at any time.

Sony aims to create a digital, accurate representation of a field or a court with a realistic ball and player movement by combining these two.

Pulselive, one of the other companies owned by Sony, can help in filling the distribution gap to provide these experiences to audiences. Pulselive, a company that handles many sites for the sports team, will allow these metaverse experiences on these sites.

In addition to this, it was hinted that Sony might be able to offer metaverse matches using its line of Playstation consoles as a distribution device. Most recently, Sony Music Entertainment revealed that they had filed trademarks for the metaverse and NFTs on August 30.
