A new stage in the Ethereum project has been unveiled by Vitalik

  • An updated version of the Ethereum roadmap was released by Vitalik Buterin.
  • He discusses his intentions to introduce a number of modifications to the Ethereum network following the Merge in order to address a number of problems, such as censorship, block verification, and centralization.
  • The new roadmap has also been modified to include a new phase that is being referred to as The Scourge, as seen in the chart that Buterin released on his Twitter page.

Buterin pointed out that the updated roadmap now contains clearer benchmarks for each category and a clearer role for quantum-proofness as a crucial element of the “endgame” protocol. The roadmap also includes the Surge, Verge, Purge, and Splurge segments. Buterin claims that The Scourge will guarantee trustworthy and impartially neutral transaction inclusion and will answer MEV concerns.

The Surge phase includes the EIP-4844 and Danksharding, rollups, and zkEVM protocols. Ethereum aims to improve scalability and capacity, with the capacity to handle 100,000 transactions per second. Additionally, the milestones include both the fundamental rollup scaling and the full rollup scaling.

The Verge will feature “verkle trees,” which can support smaller node sizes since they can fit more data into a smaller proof. The protocol is made easier to grasp by the purge phase, which compels clients to erase earlier data. The phase now incorporates a verification, making utilizing SNARKs to verify blocks relatively simple and straightforward. However, this necessitates the creation of systems for archiving previous data. The aim is to lower network entry costs while clearing any outstanding technical debt. During the Splurge phase, the main objectives are to enhance the user experience by enhancing security and flexibility. The Endgame EVM, Endgame EIP-1559, and Endgame account conceptualization round out the list of components.
