The protagonist of the Captain Tsubasa manga is an 11-year-old boy named Tsubasa Ozora who adores football and aspires to be the best player in the entire world. Tsubasa’s motto is “the ball is my friend” because a football once saved him from a bus crash.
Thanks to a lifelong commitment, Tsubasa became a football legend in Japan, Brazil, and Europe. Captain Tsubasa’s fame has influenced many international football players, and manga and anime have substantially contributed to football’s global growth.
This new partnership aims to advance Captain Tsubasa’s collaborations and projects focused on The Sandbox. Sebastien Borget, COO and Co-Founder of The Sandbox, said:
The Captain Tsubasa Japanese comics and animation series have contributed to making Japanese manga culture global in the 80s and directly influenced the youth of millions of fans around the world — including myself as a teenager. Bringing this iconic series into The Sandbox is like a ‘teenager’s dream come true.
A leading Web3 venture funding firm, Animoca Brands is the parent company of The Sandbox, a blockchain-based metaverse platform and video game. Last year, the business garnered media attention when it sold over $350 million worth of virtual land, with one piece going for as much as $4.3 million. Borget added:
By giving fans full ownership of Captain Tsubasa items, we’re empowering players to create their own user-generated football-themed experiences featuring their childhood favorite players to further extend Tsubasa Ozora’s influence on new generations of football fans.
