  • The Sandbox has announced a recent partnership with MK2.
  • MK2 is set to take its art-house flair into The Sandbox and make an advanced film-based experience.
  • The aim behind is to establish an entertainment destination in the metaverse for everyone who loves cinema.

The Sandbox is joining MK2 to make new film-based experiences set on mk2 Park, MK2’s LAND in The Sandbox.

The mk2 Park will serve like a cinematic carnival experience that will have an open-air cinema set surrounded by clouds and above a huge carousel. Film-based rides, mini-games and legendary film references will be featured in the multiplayer social hub. Offering a spot to play, feel, experience and socialize among admiration for cinema in every way is the goal. There will also be a movie house that will act like a beloved meeting spot.

COO and Co-Founder of The Sandbox, Sebastien Borget, said:

We envision the metaverse as a gathering place of diverse entertainment and culture, and it’s a pleasure to welcome MK2 as our first art-house film partner.

Adding on, he said that they have plans to establish an entertainment hub for everyone who loves cinema, enabling them to have fun in the metaverse.

MK2 has made a name for itself in making, distributing, preserving as well as exhibiting latest and classic films not only in France but around the globe. The collection includes movies by David Lynch, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Charles Chaplin, Abbas Kiarostami, Gus Van Sant, François Truffaut and more. MK2 promotes everything from creating discovery to quality filmmaking and multi-faceted energetic hubs. It has been designed like living and creative discoveries locations and its cinemas have discussion spots and meeting spaces.

MK2 is committed to bringing cinema into dialogue with everything creative. It won’t be wrong to call it a leader in immersive technologies with the opening of MK2 VR in 2016. For the unknown, MK2 VR is Europe’s first virtual reality venue.

The Sandbox provides a space to make, express and socially engage; hence, outgrows the cinema experience at a place that’s approachable for all to celebrate cinephilia without thinking about borders.

CEO of MK2, Elisha Karmitz, said that they have always promoted the concept of a cinema like a global art that is open to all. He continued that being able to put the vision in the metaverse with The Sandbox via an exclusive experience that enjoys and celebrates cinema is nothing less than an amazing opportunity to bring, from across the world, all the film lovers in a brand new space meant for creation and discoveries.
