Meta Introduce New Meta Accounts & Meta Horizon Profiles for VR
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of the world’s most used social media platform, Facebook, or Meta, recently introduced Meta Accounts: a new and unique way for users to log into their VR headsets that do not require a Facebook account.
It will start in August 2022, and you’ll need to register a Meta account and Meta Horizon profile if you’re new to Meta VR devices or have previously merged your Oculus account with your Facebook account.
Until January 1, 2023, users will be able to access their VR devices using an Oculus account. After that, you’ll need to create a Meta account and a Meta Horizon profile in order to use your Meta VR device.
Mark Zuckerberg just announced that later this summer, we’ll begin rolling out a new way to log into your VR headset — and it doesn’t require a @Facebook account. Here’s what you need to know:https://t.co/ZwqQtPMSwr pic.twitter.com/GDI9NiIU3f

The Revelation was confirmed on the official Twitter account of Meta Newsroom.
Meta Horizon Profile
Once the user finishes creating a Meta account, they’ll be asked to build a Meta Horizon Profile.
The Meta Horizon profile is their social profile in VR and other surfaces, like from a Web browser. Users can choose whether they want to present themselves to others as a gamer or as a buttoned-up 9-to-5 persona.
Also, an option is there to choose a Meta Horizon profile username that’s unique to every user(e.g., WarriorMama365), the profile name that will be visible to others while you’re in VR (e.g., Monique Smith), your profile pic, avatar, and more. Users can only create one Meta Horizon profile per Meta account.
Similar to Instagram, your Oculus friend will become your followers. This upgrade offers more opportunities for social interaction and communication. Here, users have the option to share their activity status and updates with their followers, including the applications they use and their achievements.
Also, the Oculus friends will automatically become your followers if you already own a Meta VR headset, and you will follow them back by default. Users have the right to unfollow anyone or remove followers anytime.
