It all began when Yuga Labs, the organization behind the NFT projects Bored Ape Yacht Club and Crypto Punks, launched a lawsuit against artist Ryder Ripps, whose NFT collection he had produced shared some of the latter’s visual elements. Earlier this week, Ripps’ legal team retaliated, asserting that the action was an attempt to intimidate Ripps into silence.
As the creative director of the digital marketing and design firm OKFocus, Ripps has created material for a variety of modern bands, clothing labels, and corporate brands including Nike and Red Bull.
He added that giving them a pass would mean bringing about a new world where racism and antisemitism are acceptable. The holocaust was brought about by comparing people to animals. “There are consequences to ideas, and there are consequences to ideologies,” he said
Ripps, his collaborator Jeremy Cahen, and 10 John Does have been running a viral campaign since the beginning of 2022 that alleges the creators of Yuga Labs included alt-right imagery into their wildly popular NFT project Bored Ape Yacht Club.
On the website gordongoner.com, Ripps presented the research he and his team had amassed on the subject. He has talked extensively about the problem on social media and in interviews with the media and online personalities.
