Scott Kelly, Ex-NASA Astronaut & Supporter of Ukraine Raises $500,000 Via NFT Project

Support can come from anyone and in any manner, that’s what Scott Kelly, former NASA astronaut has proved by raising $500,000 to provide help & support to Ukraine. During his 340 days stay in space between 2015 to 2016, Kelly compiled his stay aboard the International Space Station (ISS) in photos. The compilation is an art project called “Dreams Out of This World” and is also his first-ever NFT.

On April 12, the photos went on auction scheduled for a total of three days on the NFT marketplace OpenSea. However, it took just a few hours for the entire collection to get sold and earn beyond $500,000.

Thanking his supporters, Kelly tweeted, “I’m proud to announce that my NFT collection is officially sold out on @opensea, Thank you to everyone who supported this project! In the midst of this war, it’s amazing that we can come together through art to aid the people of Ukraine. Over $500,000.00 raised today”!

He further said, “I think the metaverse and cryptocurrency and blockchain will be a big part of our future”. So it seemed like the right time for me to get involved”.

Michael Capponi, president and founder of GEM assured that the organization appreciates every effort and concern that supports the mission. He further said, “We are here to help in the midst of extreme disaster and crisis”. He also thanked Scott and his team for the donation and consistent support.

Kelly doesn’t mince his words when it comes to oppose Russia in its ongoing war with Ukraine. A strong supporter of Ukraine, he has even showed famous blue-and-yellow Ukraine flag rising high off Earth in one of the photos of his NFT project- Dreams Out Of This World.

All of the net proceeds will go to Global Empowerment Mission or GEM, which is a non-profit organization that works to support the disaster-affected countries and communities.

Kelly is immensely inspired by the book, The Right Stuff by Tom Wolfe. He believes that inspiration done for the right person during the right time and in the right way leads to amazing results.
